Composting is nature’s way of recycling and is one of the most powerful actions we can take to reduce trash
in landfills and to build healthy soil. Come learn about the benefits of composting and opportunities to
compost in our area.

Speakers are:

Sarna Salzman is the founding Executive Director of SEEDS Ecology and Education Centers, a local
nonprofit focused on implementing local solutions to global challenges at the intersection of ecology and
education. Since 2018, she has been convening a regional group of partners focused on the reduction of
organic materials going to landfills for the benefit of regenerating Michigan soils.

Megan Alexander, owner of Carter’s Compost since 2022, uses the tools in her toolbox to further
improve the environmental impact of her community through organic waste diversion with the ultimate goal
to regenerate Michigan soils for future generations.

Lindsey Walker has been with Emmet County Recycling since 2007 as the Recycling Outreach, Market
Development and Commercial Accounts Manager. Lindsey has a passion for all things waste diversion and her
perseverance has led to consistent relationships with markets for many hard to recycle materials. She is
involved in recycling on the State level.
