Event Details

The Lake Effect is grounded in the author’s personal experiences but moves to wider considerations that include the aesthetic, emotional, historic, economic, and social effects of Lake Michigan.

The Lake Effect also explores the functions and power of water broadly. Water can be magical and make us healthier, happier, and more peaceful. It can also be an adversary that damages and destroys. Water is equally a comfort and a threat: a mosaic of multiplicity and contradiction.

Join us as author Fred Carlisle, who lived in Michigan for 20 years and has had a lifelong love affair with Lake Michigan, shares his stories with us.  Along with Fred Carlisle, award winning local author Anne-Marie Oomen will join him and read from her new book,  As Long As I Know You, the Mom Book due out in September.

This program will be in person in the McGuire Community Room and available via Zoom by registering HERE.

**The cover art of the book is based on the painting "Cascade" by contemporary artist Alexis Rockman, who generously granted the author permission to base the cover design on his work.
