On Thursday, December 1 st from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, the LWVGTA will present a program focused
on the Board of Canvassers and the role of this board in the election process.


You may attend in person at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Avenue,
Traverse City, Michigan

Sandy Call, a member of the Grand Traverse County Board of Canvassers, and Sam Gedman,
Chief Deputy County Clerk of Grand Traverse County, will be our speakers.
Sandy is a lifelong Republican and has served on the Grand Traverse County Republican Party
Executive Committee for over twenty-five years where she has held the offices of Vice Chair,
Secretary, and Treasurer and has chaired a variety of events and committees. She currently
serves on the State Committee of the Republican Party. She has been a campaign manager for
many candidates, knocked on hundreds of doors and made thousands of phone calls.
Sam has a diverse educational and professional background. He holds multiple graduate
degrees including a Master of Public Administration and a PH.D. in Political Science. He has
served in local government, in grant management and in academic affairs and has administered
elections in the states of Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee. He recently
supported the canvassers for Grand Traverse County as they went about their work.
LWVGTA offers programs and forums in face-to-face and virtual formats. Thanks to Traverse
Area Community Media and the Traverse Area District Library for assisting our community in
expanding and strengthening citizen access.


The LWV is a national, nonpartisan organization whose main mission is to empower and inform
voters and to defend Democracy. The League neither endorses nor opposes candidates or
parties, but encourages the informed and active participation of all citizens in government. The
League works to increase public understanding of public policy issues, and influences public
